Foaling Watch Update โ€“ March 15, 2025

๐Ÿ”น Quick Status Overview ๐Ÿ”น

๐Ÿด Elusive Surprise & Thirteen (Colt) โ€“ Day 3 โ€“ Both doing well and settling into routine.

๐Ÿด Lady Dyanaformer โ€“ Day 337 โ€“ Milk test still indicates we have time, but sheโ€™s showing physical changes.

๐Ÿด My Audubon โ€“ Day 317 โ€“ No changes, still on track.

Dyanaโ€™s Milk Test & Physical Changes

Dyanaโ€™s milk test results remain consistent, showing weโ€™re not quite in the final stretch yet:

๐Ÿ“Œ pH is still high

๐Ÿ“Œ Calcium remains under 100 ppm

While her milk test suggests sheโ€™s still progressing gradually, sheโ€™s starting to show more late-pregnancy changes. Her hind legs have begun to swell, which also happened last year as she got closer to foaling. She also has a fair amount of ventral edema, a common occurrence in heavily pregnant mares due to fluid accumulation from increased pressure on circulation.

Ultrasound Update

As shared earlier, todayโ€™s transabdominal ultrasound confirmed that Dyanaโ€™s foal is very active with a strong 80 bpm heartbeat. Even better, the foal is already facing the correct direction, though not quite in position yet. The veterinarian also noted that the foal looks big, which aligns with Dyanaโ€™s past foals.

Stormy Weather & Indoor Day

All three mares stayed inside today due to stormy weather. While Surprise and Thirteen would have enjoyed more turnout time, keeping them in was the safest option given the conditions. Everyone stayed comfortable, and weโ€™ll plan to get them back outside as soon as the weather improves.

With Dyana progressing at her own pace and Thirteen thriving in his first days, weโ€™ll continue monitoring closely and updating as things develop!
