Foaling Watch Update โ March 15, 2025
๐น Quick Status Overview ๐น
๐ด Elusive Surprise & Thirteen (Colt) โ Day 3 โ Both doing well and settling into routine.
๐ด Lady Dyanaformer โ Day 337 โ Milk test still indicates we have time, but sheโs showing physical changes.
๐ด My Audubon โ Day 317 โ No changes, still on track.
Dyanaโs Milk Test & Physical Changes
Dyanaโs milk test results remain consistent, showing weโre not quite in the final stretch yet:
๐ pH is still high
๐ Calcium remains under 100 ppm
While her milk test suggests sheโs still progressing gradually, sheโs starting to show more late-pregnancy changes. Her hind legs have begun to swell, which also happened last year as she got closer to foaling. She also has a fair amount of ventral edema, a common occurrence in heavily pregnant mares due to fluid accumulation from increased pressure on circulation.
Ultrasound Update
As shared earlier, todayโs transabdominal ultrasound confirmed that Dyanaโs foal is very active with a strong 80 bpm heartbeat. Even better, the foal is already facing the correct direction, though not quite in position yet. The veterinarian also noted that the foal looks big, which aligns with Dyanaโs past foals.
Stormy Weather & Indoor Day
All three mares stayed inside today due to stormy weather. While Surprise and Thirteen would have enjoyed more turnout time, keeping them in was the safest option given the conditions. Everyone stayed comfortable, and weโll plan to get them back outside as soon as the weather improves.
With Dyana progressing at her own pace and Thirteen thriving in his first days, weโll continue monitoring closely and updating as things develop!
