Foaling Watch Update – March 10, 2025

πŸ”Ή Quick Status Overview πŸ”Ή

🐴 Elusive Surprise – Day 339 – Calcium now 350+ ppm, pH below 6.4β€”signs remain strong for foaling soon.
🐴 Lady Dyanaformer – Day 332 – Slight calcium increase to just under 70 ppm, pH still above 7.2.
🐴 My Audubon – Day 312 – No changes, still happy and healthy with plenty of time before her due date.

Milk Test Results: Surprise & Dyana

The Horse Husband Stables team ran new milk tests tonight, the first since March 5th, and the results confirm what we’ve already suspected:

πŸ“Œ Surprise:
πŸ”Ή Calcium is now greater than 350 ppm – This level indicates that foaling should be imminent based on the well-established correlation between calcium spikes and foaling timing.
πŸ”Ή pH has dropped below 6.4 – A clear sign that the mare’s body is shifting toward the final stage before labor. A pH drop below 6.5 is typically one of the most reliable last-stage indicators before foaling.

For reference, when Surprise was last tested on March 5th, her calcium was at 250 ppm, meaning she should have foaled within 72 hours based on historical foaling probability charts. While she has not yet foaled, her calcium has continued to climb, and her pH has dropped even further, reinforcing the likelihood that she is extremely close to foaling.

πŸ“Œ Dyana:
πŸ”Ή Calcium has increased slightly, now just under 70 ppm (up from the last test).
πŸ”Ή pH remains above 7.2, meaning she is still progressing but not yet nearing the final stretch.

Dyana’s steady progression follows a much slower build compared to Surprise, which aligns with what we expected since she is still a few weeks out based on her past foaling history.

What Does This All Mean?

For Surprise, the milk test dataβ€”combined with her waxing, behavioral signs, and previous foaling historyβ€”confirms that we are still in high watch mode. With calcium now exceeding 350 ppm and a confirmed pH drop below 6.4, foaling could happen at any time.

For Dyana, while her calcium has increased slightly, her pH remains high, meaning she is not yet within the foaling window.

With another night ahead, the cameras remain on, and all eyes are on Surprise. Stay tuned for updates!
