Surprise & Thirteen: Longest Day Outside Yet
Surprise and Thirteen continue to do well, and today he had his longest turnout yetโnearly six hours outside in the round pen.
๐ What did he do with all that time?
โ๏ธ Took naps in the sun like a seasoned pasture pony.
๐ Ran around like a wild child testing his speed and agility.
๐ด Pestered Surprise when she tried to napโbecause what are moms for, if not entertainment?
Heโs thriving, and with his increased energy and curiosity, enrichment toys will be introduced soon to keep him engaged and exploring in positive ways.
Audubon: Mud & Nap Enthusiast
Audi may not be showing any major physical changes yet, but she was living her best life today. She fully embraced the mud, rolling repeatedly in the paddock until she was caked from head to hoof.
After her mud spa session, she went for a deep sleep nap, laying completely flat and snoringโa classic Audi move. While sheโs still a ways off from foaling, itโs always good to see her relaxed and comfortable.
Dyana: Everything is Swollen, But Still No Big Milk Changes
At Day 339, Dyana is reaching the stage where everything is swelling. She now has edema in all four legs, and like last year, sheโs stopped laying down entirely. The Horse Husband Stables team isnโt alarmed, but they would certainly love for her to foal sooner rather than later so she can get comfortable again.
๐ Tonightโs Comfort Measures:
โ๏ธ Poultice applied to all four legs to help reduce swelling.
โ๏ธ Milk test to check progressโresults show slight changes but still no imminent foaling.
Her pH remains high, meaning foaling isnโt likely just yet. However, her calcium level has increased slightly to just over 100 ppm. While thatโs encouraging, 200 ppm is the magic number, so she could still have a long way to go.
Her due date is this Thursday, March 20 (Day 342), but since she foaled on Day 357 last year, we could still have another 18 days of waiting.
For now, we continue monitoring Dyanaโs swelling, tracking her milk test trends, and hoping she doesnโt keep us waiting too long. Stay tuned!
